TOPIC: DUTIFUL DEBORAH
TEXT:JUDGES 4:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: "And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand...So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him" (JUDGES 4:14).
Deborah, the wife of Lapidoth, came from the tribe of Ephraim, one of the 12 tribes of Israel. She was a prophetess, yet performed legal and military responsibilities, and was the only female judge in the Old Testament. Her closeness to God was revealed in the faith and confidence with which she ministered with precision as a prophetess.
She was dauntless and brave. She willingly went with Barak to the battle of the Lord to defend her nation against Jabin, King of Canaan and his captain, with nine hundred iron chariots. God specializes in using weak but available holy vessels to fulfil his divine purpose.
Deborah was a successful home keeper, a composer and singer who had the grace to combine the administrative duties of judging Israel with her chores at home.
Deborah's achievement was as a result of a combination of her rare gifts: her relationship with God and her willingness to uniquely serve in the face of danger to her precious life. You are unique too. Discover your gifts and use them for the good of all around you.
QUOTE: She was dauntless and brave.
CHALLENGE: Like Deborah, faithfully use your talents.
PRAYER: When duty calls, help me to obey, oh God.ist
