TOPIC: BARTHOLOMEW: A DISCIPLE OF JESUS
TEXT: LUKE 6:12-14
Key Verse: "Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew" (Luke 6:14).
Bartholomew was among the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus. It is believed that he was also named Nathaniel whom Philip introduced to Christ (John 1:45). He was from Cana in Galilee and also a fisherman.
At first, he did not understand who Jesus was, but later confessed that He was the Son of God. He was a perfect Jew. Jesus described him as "...an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!"
He was among the twelve sent by Christ to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick. He preached the gospel in many places with miracles, signs and wonders following. He was also present at the last supper.
He knew a lot of God's law and laboured for Christ till the end. It was said that his skin was removed, and he was beheaded for the sake of the gospel of Christ.
Read and meditate daily on the word of God and be committed to serving Him faithfully.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please give me the grace to render worthy, committed and acceptable service to You.
